I worked in an electronics repair shop for 10 years that was an authorized Sony warranty repair station. Some really OLD remotes used audio frequencies and tuning forks! You could gut the electronics, use the infrared LED and sensor and connect your own AVR circuit to it, but I'd rather just get an IR LED and sensor from one of the many sources and build it from scratch. All of Sony's chips and firmware for these remotes is proprietary AFAIK. They only give minimal info to the techs so they can determine if a part is bad or not. Zack
