STK-500 schematic

STK-500 schematic

2006-02-19 by Lists

Does anyone here have, or know where I can get, a full schematic of
Atmel's AVR-500 board?

There is a logic schematic available but this doen not show all the
components such as transistors, resistors etc. I have two dead boards that
I need to repair and working out what bits are what is not easy with SMT!

The only schematic I have found on AVRFreaks is incomplete (see my full
original posting)...

If there a FAQ telling how to get to the list's file area, so I can see
that one? I suspect it is the same incomplete schematic.

Matbe you could supply a URL for the full circuit?

Most of the Sony remotes I have had experience with used infrared. I
worked in an electronics repair shop for 10 years that was an authorized
Sony warranty repair station. Some really OLD remotes used audio
frequencies and tuning forks!

You could gut the electronics, use the infrared LED and sensor and connect
your own AVR circuit to it, but I'd rather just get an IR LED and sensor
from one of the many sources and build it from scratch.

All of Sony's chips and firmware for these remotes is proprietary AFAIK.
They only give minimal info to the techs so they can determine if a part
is bad or not.

Each manufacturer uses their own coding scheme for the IR pulses that
are on the 36, 38 or 40 KHz IR carrier frequency. Here is an article I
wrote that explains the most common Sony protocol and gives some BASIC
code for decoding the pulses into a command code and device code:
http://www.zbasic.net/appNotes/AN204.pdf. The full code can be found
here: http://www.zbasic.net/appNotes/AN204.zip. The BASIC code will need
to be rewritten for an AVR but the basic algorithm is there. You will
need code to measure the time for each pulse width using Timer1.

There are numerous other references to Sony remotes; remember Google is
your friend. In case you are interested this code and application note
was written for the ZBasic AVR-based microcontroller. Other AVR, ZBasic
and BasicX projects can be found on my website.

Dealing with Grad Student Spam (was Infra red)

Couldn't agree more Jim. Such is the curse of email and the Internet.

These emails are easy to spot and are quite different to the ones from
people who have tried something and got stuck. As a group could we all
agree to either:
a) Not respond to these emails - it only encourages them
b) Respond with a standard answer such as "Use Google, do some
investigation and work before asking for more help"

It's funny how you never hear from these people again and they never
post their results.

The whole world has become too lazy.

Back when I worked in an office, people would come to my desk and say "what flag for tar does gzip compression?" or some such question. I'd say "I don't know, let's look it up" (even though I did know).. I'd pull up the man page, and search for the argument. We'd find it, and they'd say "Thanks"... Now, one would hope they'd realize you can look things like this up for yourself.. but NO... an hour later, they'd come back from another RTFM question.. so I'd play the same game again.. Sometimes, I'd have to play this game hundreds of times for the laziest folks

I'm not as certain as others that this thread was started by the typical
student. But fully agree the sort of thing discussed happens way too
often. Even at work. I've come to realize:

There are plenty of schools who issue graduate degrees simply for
enrolling. Has gotten so bad that those who actually *earned* a degree
from one local state school are forced to hide the fact as the market is
flooded with idiots bearing the same sheepskin.

AVR Studio folder (STK500) stk500.ebn. You will need
an AVR910 like programmer to program a blank chip I
believe, I have never done this myself but there was
a thread on avrfreaks on how to repair the STK500
including all the necessary steps for programming.

Graduated from a third world country and living and working in a first world
country I can safely say that "asking lame questions " is a universal
behaviour. It is frustrating and does wastes time but getting angry does not
help at all.
You are right, the situation is made worse by the "commercial colleges"
where teachers read out electronics and other stuff as if they are telling
some story without any regards as how to put things into practise.

Well, thanks for that...

However - that is the incomplete circuit which I already have found.

If you look at this circuit, it is a block schematic, referring to Sheets
1, 2 etc up to SHEET-9 SCH

It's possible to work out where the AVR freaks files are kept, and it's an
Apache server which allows directory listing.

There's no sign of anything looking like the missing sheets. Lots of other
tasty info then, if you don't mind digging.

I just tried the link and downloaded the 10 page pdf, it is COMPLETE !!!!

Try mouse right-click on the "download" and "save target as" to you hard disk.
It should be a .pdf size 314,857 bytes.
Possibly you have acrobat reader set (somehow) that it only displays the first
page when downloading?

I was refering to a state school with a minority orientation who
attracts government employees to their graduate programs with an easy
ride. Apparently in Federal Government promotions review one PhD carries
as much weight as any other PhD.

Ooops. Hidden in plain view.

I must have been having what is referrred to on some other lists as 'a
senior moment'.

Sorry. And thanks!

BTW: if anyone here is interested in Motor control (there are several
projects in the AVRFreaks area) we may be interested in working with tem.
Particularly if they are OK at the hardware.

Hi John
does rR0 to R31 change after reset?
how can I save some few data (8 byte) in ram that after Reset I can recover them?
I will be appreciate if you send your reply on hosseingholizade@yahoo.com add.

Writing it into EEPROM somewhere and then reading it back after reset
should work.

But consider how many times are you going to do that? Eeprom writing has
limitations.
I just read this discution so I don“t know what IC are you talking about?

Re: STK-500 schematic

I have a regrigerator that the thermostat went bad. Having a DS1820
for the temperature sensor and using an Olimex prototype board I made
a replacement. To store the Temperature Set Point and Differental Set
Point (how much +/- the temp can swing from the requisted temp) I
used the following code.

eeprom unsigned char ts=80;	//Temperature Set Point
eeprom unsigned char ds=1;	//Differental Set Point

This only changes each time I change them. To stop from recording
each 1 step up or down there is a hold-off for about 5 sec. so I can
change several degreese then the setting is stored in eeprom and the
microcontroller starts using that as the setting to go by.

Now when power goes off the thermostat knows where to cool the fridge
to.

After thoughts
If you are wanting to preserve something like the last reading using
a SAVE pushbutton. Thats doing it, the pain-in-the-ass, manually way.

You could use a sensor that senses immediatelly when then input
voltage fails and triggers a interrupt routine. Have a capacitor
store enough power to run the micro for a few seconds while the loss-
of-power routine makes the saves. If you wanted you could still have
the SAVE SW.
