I don't know how you rate your time, but it seem you've invested quite 
a lot of it up to now.

Why not get you an ATAVRISP (MK-II now)?
For about $30 you get a manufacturer supported tool that gets 
occasional updates via Studio Service Packs to support new devices.

Could be cheaper in the long run - don't you think?
