The Original Poster should know that there really is no set
of "interface ICs commonly used with AVRs". The AVR is a
very general purpose microcontroller and peripheral ICs
that work with other micros also work with the AVR
(mostly).

For dialling, you first need to determine whether you can
use DTMF or do you need "pulse" dial. For the sort of
