It was the same on the original AVRISP.  Something else to be wary of is 
that when doing an update, if the instructions say to only connect power 
and return lines to the ISP do not connect any other lines.  You'll have 
to do this with jumpers.  If you do connect the signal lines you'll be 
buying a new ISP unless you care to attempt reprogramming the one you 
just FUBAR'd.

And it's never a good idea to do an update the night before you have to 
go do a show and tell for a customer...
