I have developed a reader for the japanese version. Can't remember the 
the spec name. The ELM232 is not necesaray if you use a micro-controller 
in the circuit, the interfaces for all the other variants of OBD2 are 
published as simple transistor circuits to interface back to an RS232 
interface on a laptop with odd speeds without needing a 
micro-controller, just keep on looking.
