I had a similar experience but not as dramatic. I forgot my
Verified by Visa password....so the order got rejected 3 or 4
times. The people there were quite good and finally had to sort
it all out by phone with my bank.

BUT better safe than sorry. I have been proposing to Amex some
form of secure site purchase approval, but of course everybody would
have to do it. In other words you log into the credit card provider's
secure website, and make some list of UNUSUAL purchases that you can
approve so that the provider knows that it is not a scam.

I had lots of problem trying to get stuff from Mouser too in the US.
