AVR-ISP slows way, way, down

AVR-ISP slows way, way, down

2008-02-27 by Dennis Clark

I have an odd behavior I'm wondering if anyone else has seen.

I use avrdude on OSX Macintosh to program an ATMEGA8535 via the AVR-ISP.
For a while it works fine, programs in fine speed, all is good. After
about a dozen downloads the same process has slowed down to one record per
second, so a 4K program takes a minute or so to download. I define a
record as one "#" printed to the screen from avrdude. My AVR-ISP2 does
not do this. Since I'm on a Mac I use the AVR-ISP via a USB/serial dongle
I've rebooted the Mac, pulled the USB/RS232 converter out and back in,
turned everything on and off and it still downloads at a fraction of the
speed that it should.

Has anyone else seen this or have any clue why this happens? I've had it
happen on two different boards.

thanks,
DLC
