This is not the case, you can do everything on AVR using the internal
oscillator.

The problem we were discussing earlier was how to rescue the chip if you
accidentally configure it to have an external crystal, when it hasn't
got one.

I put one on my Dragon and I think I should be able to fix the oscillator 
problem with that, but I've never needed to try it. I've also got an STK500, 
anyway.

I have had that problem with accidentally programming the AVR for an
external crystal. I have an STK-500 and it allows you to rescue the chip
with parallel programming.

The STK500 is well worth the cost. The only drawback is, I wish it came
with ZIF sockets. I'd be willing to pay the extra bucks for that feature.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
