cheap source for lcd bezel

cheap source for lcd bezel

2009-12-21 by Jeff Blaine AC0C

Just about every AVR project I make has a LCD 2x16 or 4x20.

Finding cheap LCD is easy. Finding cheap bezel to put over the LCD, so it looks nice in the home-brew hacked box, that seems hard. I can't follow a $6 LCD with a $4 trim bezel. That makes no sense to me.

Does anyone have a source for cheap bezels?

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I have found the following to be great for creating some excellent home brew
front panels and avoid having to find a bezel. I try to find a suitable box
first and then create the panels with their software. The final results look
very professional, albeit at a slightly higher price than your simple bezel.

www.frontpanelexpress.com

You can design your panel and then click on the costs button and see how
much it will be.

Regards
Dave.

I've used them too. The results are great but their software could do with
some improvement. It is in fact pretty frustrating until you learn the key
is to always work with the "object properties" window. Steve

I agree, I normally drop the cutout, hole etc close to where I want it and
then use the properties window to move it where I want it.

You also have to remember that the object centre is the X and Y coordinates
which makes it a little bit of work to convert from CAD drawings where the
edge is normally the reference point. Keep your calculator handy!! :o)

Once you get over this, you can make some pretty neat panels.

Dave,

That's a great idea. But for prototyping or something that you are just wanting to hide the jagged edges from the cutout, a standard bezel is what I'm trying to find.

I've seen some of the self-adhesive type of bezels and that looks like the best solution. However, not at $3-6 each. That seems outrageous.

It's an alternative source for these stick-on bezels that is what I'm looking for.
