We use Altium and it has some great features, but also has the usual marketing-based problem of them adding more and more "headline" features that hardly anyone uses, while a lot of annoying bugs go unfixed.
As a small 3-person company it's a big cost for us, but PCB cad makes up a lot of our business so it's worth it.

I can't see them doing a free version, they are currently going the other way by trying to lock all customers into a yearly payment.

Hi Tim,

Interesting to see you in here too after seeing your name in the AD forum!

As you are probably aware, there is a lot of talk about the bloatware of AD.
I wish I could just have a schematic and PCB design suite with a good
autorouter. I don't use any of the other stuff apart from once in a while I
do use the simulator. I don't need any of the FPGA features etc.

Mind you, now that I am getting used to the nice features of manual routing
I would only use auto for the occasional design or that first density check
run. J

Have a look at Pulsonix:

http://www.pulsonix.com/index.asp

We've just had a discussion on the user group about how it compares to AD10.
