jtag ice mkII fried?

jtag ice mkII fried?

2011-09-27 by Steve Hodge

I think I just fried my (genuine Atmel) JTAG ICE MKII. I accidentally
pressed my target board microcontroller reset switch while I was in an
active debugging session. Now AVR Studio will not recognize the programmer
and I get all sorts of various "fail" messages. Not only that but it blew a
100 mA fuse on my target board.

Has anyone else had this unfortunate experience and/or know that indeed
doing a target board reset will indeed fry the JTAG ICE MKII?

Has anyone had experience with the JTAG ICE MKII clones available from China
through eBay?

Steve

It may just be the TVS protection chip which is
located just behind the socket for the ribbon and
easily replaceable, you can just unsolder it and see
if it all works again. If it does get another chip
and replace it ASAP.

Thanks, John. However, I haven't a clue which one of the many chips it
might be. Nothing looks fried. Steve
