DC-DC converter @ 500mA min

DC-DC converter @ 500mA min

2004-08-01 by jay marante

does anyone have an idea of a DC-DC converter from maxim with a minimum of 500mA of output current at 5V? i need it for a barcode reader with 330mA @ max current + AVR uC + servo @ least 10mA supply current. so im thinking of @ least 500mA. i have a max639 but only have a 225mA max output. thanks...

maxim's site is pretty well laid out to allow you to select the part
you need. start here:

Even better: Linear Technologies www.linear.com They
have a freely downloadable programme they call
"SwitcherCAD". Basically, it is a version of SPICE with a
schematic-entry front-end. Naturally, they are using it to
entice you into speccing thier line of switchmode
regulators, opamps, etc., so that's all the ICs in thier
parts database. You can do more with it, right now, I'm
still learning it myself, so that's all that I can tell you.
Oh, one other thing. It comes with a rather large library
of predesigned switchmode power supplies that you can use as
starting points.

National and ST also have design support for their convertors. I like
Nationals better although it does insist on Microsofts JAVA runtime.
