A bit off-topic ... but

can anyone tell me if it is possible to build a CAN device which 
doesn't use a 5V rail?

I can buy controllers that run off 3V3... do I HAVE to run the 
transceivers off 5V, or are there ones that also run off 3V3? Or can I 
rely on the can cabling to supply the power for the transceivers?

I don't remember what company but they make 3.3V transceivers that 
fully comply!
