AVR-Chat

Thank you,

Is there anything practical I can do?  I swapped the power and tried 
batteries but it made no difference.  I can read the flash ok, and 
program the EEPROM fine.  I don't want to give up too early.  Any 
tricks of the trade to coax it to work? Overnight in the freezer?

Means it has not erased properly - could be low/flaky power supply
voltage, or could be the AVR chip is knackered for some reason.
