Nokia FBUS-Nokia 3350

Nokia FBUS-Nokia 3350

2006-06-11 by Kathy Quinlan

Hi all,

I will be posting schematics on my website, with photos once I have
finished tidying things up (putting the adaptor in a box). I have just
built a Nokia FBUS adapter for a Nokia 3350 (was an old pre pay phone I
have laying around :)

I originally bought the Altronics SMS controller kit, which is the
Silicon chip SMS controller. But I did not have the FBUS cable, this
particular mobile has the pins for the data connector on the PCB (they
are 6 land pads on the Main PCB. soldering to these pads is a PITA (Pain
In The Ass) as they are in the bottom right corner of a shielded box :(.
Add to this the fact that any decent flexible cable is not going to fit
on these pads makes for an interesting solution.

My solution for this problem was to use 30awg Karnar wire, about 40mm
long, solder one end to the pads, and then splice (with heat shrink
covering) to some 4 core flat cable (the type used for telephone
extension cables etc) this then routed out through the old mic hole. to
an RJ12 connector.

As I do not yet know the codes to play with this phone, I used a demo
version of a commercial app (Logo Manager) to test the cable, it all
worked well :)

As a start to the new page I will post the details of the cable etc,
then add the SMS controller and my own code for it.
