It isn't if you just start from the beginning and haven't used

avrfreak.net has a GCC forum (one brand and dialect of C) I believe
that Codevision (another brand and dialect of C) may have a forum also.
Then there is also Imagecraft and IAR.

That's because C is a language that's not just for Atmel
processors. If this is your level of understanding of the
C language then it would be better to stick to assembly as it
may take you a couple of years before you become proficient in C.
