As far as I can tell the Tiny15L is still in full production. IF it would be obsoleted, what would stop you using the Tiny 25/45/85? The fact that it has on chip debug? Or TOO MUCH flash? Or faster than the Tiny15? The USI? The addition of pin change interrupt? Is it the lower current consumption? Hello John, Tiny15 is being discontinued from December, I got a last buy notice from Atmel for it a couple of weeks ago. It's causing a big problem for one of our customers who are going to have to redesign several products because of it. The problem with swapping to Tiny25 etc comes when you are using the high voltage programming mode. They have swapped over pins PB3 and PB4 between the Tiny15 and the 25. While there is a "tiny15" compatibility mode which handles this pin swap, it does not swap the pins for the high-voltage progamming mode - the Serial Clock pin is on pin 2 on the Tiny15 and pin 3 on the Tiny25. So it is necessary to redesign the board when changing from Tiny15 to Tiny25 if using HV programming. I must say that I nearly always spec Atmel devices, I have just had to work on a PIC project and it's like going back into the dark ages. And they are normally good about ensuring a replacement compatible device is available when they discontinue something. But not for this one! We have also been unable to get any guidance from Atmel reps as to whether the Tiny15 was continuing in production or not (until I got the notice), which has not been very helpful for forward planning. Despite all that I still think the AVRs are the best range of microcontrollers out there at the moment. -- Tim Mitchell tim@sabretechnology.co.uk http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk Sabre Technology (Hull) Ltd, 3a Newlands Science Park, Hull HU6 7TQ Registered in England and Wales no.3131504 t:01482 801003 f:01482 801078
