Prophet 08

2007-08-23 by Eduardo Saponara

I'm with you. In general DCO's are less desireable, it's probably why we don't have Osc FM in the P08, IIRC in the evolver OSC FM is handled by the digital osc's and the DCO's probably don't have CV ins as the digital clock controls the cap discharge. It would be cool if dave designed a hybrid osc where it's synced to the digital clock but it's an analog osc so it can be disabled or overridden by voltage control.

I love the 106's sound though, so it might sound incredible regardless. It does have osc slop controls too, so the raw osc sound may be quite good. I heard that Dave likes DCO's better, so He's probably worked hard on making them satisfy the VCO loving crowd.

I love my andromeda though, I think after the initial playtime with the P08 I'd be back on the A6 and have little time for other synths, I love the xpander but I hardly touch it since I got the Andromeda, the architecture just allows me to do everything I can think of most of the time, and the results are great and easy to get, plus one great interface for 16 voices that are fully multitimbral, so it's just everything.

If you read the specifications on the DSI site, it clearly states that they are DCO's. In fact, the evolver's 'analog' oscillators are DCO's as well. DSI doesn't make anything with VCO's.
DCO's are considered analog by most (juno-106, 60, 6, alpha juno) It isn't all analog either, (neither is the Andromeda) the envelopes, LFO's, sequencer are digital. The Moog voyager has analog EG's and lfo, so is more 'all analog' than the other two discussed.
The andromeda does however have VCO's, which in general are more desirable, and is fully multitimbral. I'd love to hear the P08 though! I think it's a great idea and a great synth.

DCO's? According to this:http://davesmithinstruments.com/other/prophet08.htmThe signal path is all analog. Dave's Evolvers use digitaloscillators and analog - the Prophet '08 is all analog."

Shoot! You're right. They must have just updated the DSI sight
yesterday.

I had a Juno 106 and Korg DW-8000 (and a EX-8000), all with DCO's.
Yeah, DCO's are weaker than VCO's.

Yeah, the Andromeda does have digital components, or modifiers, but
the path is analog, which is important. DCO's on the Prophet? I
haven't had a chance to listen to the newly posted clips, but am anxious.
