Andromeda vs. Vermona Perfourmer

Andromeda vs. Vermona Perfourmer

2004-06-09 by musashidan2000

Hi yall,

I have a virus kb round 2 years now...just coming to really
appreciate its qualities, nuances. however, also noticed that I am
subtlely but profoundly irritated by some of the sibilances
and "digital-ness" that accompany a great many of the sounds...
Also, i've generally had a difficult time "fitting" the virus'
sounds into a mix. Something about it... Maybe its too "clean", I
need something a bit more dusty, but interstellar and versatile, &
can fit into jangly electro jazz hip hop......hence my presence on
this forum.

So, I'd like to try a real deal analog synth.

Considering either the Andromeda or Vermona perFourmer.
Andromeda online demos sound quite bootsy, compared to Vermona's.
The Vermona's got some gritty, liquidy, zippidy, fat tones...but no
patch memory, nofx.

However, I heard the Andromeda on the Miles_Gurtu cd (don't sleep!),
sounds very neat.

The mp3s of the a6's sounds on sonicstate don't sound all that
sharp...:/ But for some reason, I have a sense about the Andy
hoping its not just an another over-hyped box.

I guess I wanna know the inside scoop...is it really all that? Most
times I see it sold on ebay, the guy only had it for under a year!
Often only 6 months!

Any words are appreciated.

My opinion is that people sell the Andromeda not because of any
quality control or sound issues, but rather because of the
spectacularly deep mod matrix, which can frustrate the impatient
among us if not savoured fully. I happen to love it. Really
digging in can make the Andromeda sound modular with very
little effort. So, the "interstellar" quality you seek should come
quite easily. Dr. Who noises with 1/6 the
oscillators....electroacoustic aleatoric heaven. Right guys?

I have an A6 and I've been tempted to get a Perfourmer as an additional
EM plaything, but lawdy, you'd never part me from my A6.

Try doing *this* with a Perfourmer:

Vermona Perfourmer for 750,-

2004-06-09 by sinus

hey
i want to sell my vermona perfourmer for 750,- if somebody is interested,
you cant really compare a perfourmer with the andromeda not from the prices
and also not from the possibilties
you can more compare the perfourmer to a four time korg ms 20 with midi

Not the only reason. The reason that at some point I'll sell my A6 (when
I get around to it!) is that I'm underwhelmed by the sound. In
particular, the filters are not particularly pleasing to my ear, and seem
to be rather finicky. It may in fact be that somewhere in the "deep
settings" are things that are causing me to have less-than-pleasant
experiences with the filters, but if so, it's not the synth for me :)

I just decided to give a listen to the Moog Voyager. Boy!! By
golly, I think thats it! Its got the punch of the vermona, and the
smoothness of the A6. Alas it IS monophonic, but the sounds are
perfect...

thanks all!

RE: [Andromeda_A6-ION] Re: Andromeda vs. Vermona Perfourmer

2004-06-10 by unknown freak

The Voyager's very groovy and satisfying. Check out the Macbeth M3X if
you get a chance. Handmade, built like a tank, Minimoog layout, *very*
Mini-like sound, very punchy, killer bass and leads, nice modulation
matrix, MIDI, routeable CV ins and outs, much less expensive, no
keyboard or beautiful wood.

(All right, I've got some demos of that on my site too ...)

The A6 doesn't sub for a Mini, but it'll do a pretty convincing
imitation in some patches. As to the comment that the A6's basic sound
isn't so hot, from some angles it's almost true. There are some synths
you can sit down with and get amazing sounds immediately. The A6's
personality is more to resist you initially. You'll mess around with it
and think, "This thing sounds weak. It's a turd." I wish it were as
immediately rewarding. Generally it isn't. But even flipping through
factory presets should be enough to show what an giant range of great
sounds it's capable of, as fat as you could wish. But I think it was
partly my craving for a simple instant-gratification synth that made me
get an M3X to sit next to it.

Seems like the A6 requires more chiseling and digging through that matrix, really architecting your sound...i respect that...i actually like that, i still may get one if the right deal passes my way before a Voyager does...

The Voyager's very groovy and satisfying. Check out the Macbeth M3X if
you get a chance. Handmade, built like a tank, Minimoog layout, *very*

keyboard or beautiful wood.

But I think it was
partly my craving for a simple instant-gratification synth that made me
get an M3X to sit next to it.

yeah, I know...they are poles apart, I've realized. I've been having an internal tug-o-war over exactly what I'm looking for in a synth...I like the vibrance and kick of the perFourmer and the slicksmoothsexy sounds and sweeps of the A6 not to mention its bells and whistles.
But it seems the perFourmer will sit on top of the music rather than fit into it and support the other elements...and the andromeda seems to not really take the lead so well. I listened to the Moog Voyager the other day...feels perfect, except the price, hehe. it seems to blend these elements really well....its got what I'm looking for...

I think that's gonna be my move...unless a super deal on an A6 passes my way first.

Daniel,

I'm owned a lot of synths: Korg DW-8000, Korg EX-8000, Roland Juno
106, Roland RS-09, Roland JP-8000, Roland JP-8080, Access Virus
Indigo, ARP Solus (still have that one). Trust me, the A6 is the
ticket. I love it.

I play in a band and there's a running joke about how I get a new
keyboard every year. Well, when I showed up to record with the A6,
for the first time, the other guys (including my critical brothers)
were totally blown away.

The A6 sounds great if you spend sometime with it. Trust me.

hmmm... i really disagree about the andy and the perfourmer and their abilities to stay on
top or blend in... i feel like they're different sounds, but they can do both REALLY well,
waaaay better than virus c. but i like virus also.

i agree completely. altough Andy can imitate some sounds of synths of
yesteryear better than anything else, people forget it is an original
polysynth with its own sound, than NOTHING else can immitate. also,
it cuts thru any mix like a knife. romplers and VA can go home.

So, if you need absolutely perfect minimoog sound, go get a minimoog!
and be done with it - i don't see anybody commenting how crappy do
minimoog impersonations sound on a Prophet Five or OB-Xa (the
untouchables). And they do!! Even memorymoog sounds diiferent than
mini thanks to CEM3340.

So, beauty is in all these synths is in their diversity and subtle
variations. thank god for that, or we'd all have just one synth at
 home.

Also, i disagree that its slow and complicated to get good simple
sounds on A6. As with any synth you need to learn your way arround -
unless you think having 72 knobs is a problem...
I too like the PerFourmer, but if i had to choose, i'd take A6, no
contest.

btw, for the original thread poster, if you want to hear better A6

Awesome! Thanks for the perspective, view on synths. I've only had 3 synths, I'm no expert in synthesis or anything, but I've come to see many interesting things...Well, I DID end up buying a miniMoog Voyager just 1 week ago and its a one of a kind beast for sure! Amazing simplicity, power, control afforded to the user (me!). Definitely a keeper...I'm going to get an A6 now....when my finances recover, though...I now understand what the buzz is all about with these Analog synths, Analog(UK Engineered)mixers, Analog fx, etc.

Yeah, I got 2 VA's now, and they are on their way out, they just can't sit on a beat, fit into it...the Moog does it, and VERY EASILY at that.
