Andromeda sound

2005-03-15 by strongrelax

Hi guys, i own Nord Lead2 and Korg Z1, however i really like the sound
of SC Prophet 5 and even NI Pro53 software, i also love the sound of
my Nord, but it ain't Prophet. So my question to you guys, can A6
sound like Prophet5, or can it sound more "Prophet" then Nord2?
Ufortunately i can't find any store that has A6 on the floor.
How can i check what it sounds like?

Thanks.

The A6 has a very thick sound, it's very close to a Moog, but a little
more bright in the upper frequencies. It's definately fatter and
thicker than both the Z1 (which i own) and the NL2 (which I played
many times), so if you are looking for thickness, you will find it in
the A6. It CAN sound fairly close to a prophet, but it's useful to
have an EQ handy to alter the A6's tendency to push out more energy in
the 250-400hz range. A lot of the famous 'classic' prophet sounds can
easily be mimicked by using two oscillators (slightly detuned) and
running the signal through filter 1 and 2 in a series (it thickens the
sound a great deal, even when filter 1 is just open). It will
definately sound more 'Prophet' than a Nord, but I would still try and
use one first-hand before buying. Also, consider the Alesis Ion, it
has a bunch of filter types, and sounds thick (without overdoing it).
The A6 is still much more beast-like in it's output.

If you are looking for something "prophet-like" you should definately check out the poly-
evolver form david smith instruments. It is a true analog with digital components as well,
and as you may know, he is one of the creators of the Prophet.
