Marco,
Lets try to work this midi thing out.
Midi is a nice system and I'm using it for several years now but this is a
tricky little problem.
The way my setup works now is good enough but I would like to get the most
out of my Roland GP-100 guitar preamp/processor and the VF-1.
The VF-1 is running through the send/returns of my GP-100.
I think I can get the most out of them like this, the GP-100 is quite
simular to the VF-1 but also very different, using the send returns (which
can be placed anywhere in the GP-100's preamp/effects chain).
For the midi part: the FC-200 goes: Midi in (Gp-100) and Midi Tru (Gp-100)
goes to the VF-1 Midi in.
This is what I want(ed)/expected: The FC-200 should control all the VF's and
GP's user patches by choosing 1 bankselect number and 1 program change
number.
This works fine only not for User B 29 to 100.
At this moment I have no problem reaching the 200 user patches of the GP and
the VF runs along perfectly until I want to combine the gp user patches
129 - 200.
I would like the vf to change to User B but it changes to user A.
Now don't spent to much time about thinking about this problem because I
think I'm asking something the Units can't deliver, at least I think I've
reached the end of the midi capacities.
The reason.......... ?
The banks respond to different CC numbers,
I contacted Roland Benelux and they wrote:
The banks are chosen by CC 00 and a bank select number, the FC- 200 sends
them, but......
The VF -1 reacts to the following midi commands:
CC 00
Program change map 1 00
Progam change map 2 01
Preset A 02
Preset B 03
User A 04
User B 05
But he Gp works a little bit different:
CC 00
Program change map 1 00
Program change map 2 01
Program change map 3 02
Program change map 4 03
Checking these list you'll see the VF-1 needs CC 00 04 and 05 to reach User
A and B,
The Gp does not recognize them.
Roland suggest switching off the Fc - 200's "Send Bankselect".
Select your banks manually and you've got acces to all the patches in the
selected bank.
Well so far Roland Benelux, I think I'm trying to reach for something
impossibble.
At this moment my FC-200 gives me full access to the gp 100 and I can access
128 User patches of the VF-1 (and all the presets).
That's enough but it would be nice if both the gp and the vf User Banks
would react to the same CC (bank select)numbers.
Quite confusing isn't it......
But, midi is a very nice system but sometimes it does not cover all my
wishes.
Or am I missing "The Solution" ?
groeten,
Sjaak de Vos
