I own a gp-100, 2-3 years now and a vf-1 since 1/2 a year. Very short: for guitar I would have to choose the gp (but it's a difficult choice), not the vf. I'l give a short (?) list of reasons. The gp has 16 assignable controls, the vf only 4. The gp has a double/stereo send returns, 4 outputs, midi thru/out, the vf "only" has stereo in/outputs and digital out and midi in-out (no thru, that means it's a midi death end street, midi-splitters and so on). The Gp allows you to put every effect anywhere in the chain, the vf is limited. I do think that the vf-1 and the sansamp can deliver very nice sounds, but the vf 1 is not only guitar oriented but bass/keyboard/vocal/studio allround kinda machine, and this results in the fact that I think the GP is the more allround (more flexible) guitar equipment. The gp is very guitar dedicated, also the amp simulation and speaker sim. are separated effects, the vf 1 has joined them together (the gp allows you to switch amp sim OFF and speaker sim. ON, the vf-1 speaker-amp sim. can not be separated they are one effect and I think you might wanna use the speaker simulation for your Sans Amp). The vf - 1 effects are very nice, but sometimes I find the overall sound thinner and more digital, it gives good competition but, if I had to choose, for guitar I would keep the GP-100, but then again they are different sounding machines. Last thing, some other people in this group mentioned (I think) the vf-1 is sometimes noisy, I sometimes hear a sound that should not be in the signal, I think you can imagine the sound of the drums in a room produced by the vibes of let's say my guitar playing Very loud, you can hear the drum become alive, triggered by the sound waves of my guitar. And that's a sound i hear sometimes produced by the Vf-1. Don't know (yet) what causes it and if tweaking will remove this sound, it's there in some presets, maybe I'm clipping some effects. But I think I' keep both machines, I've also got a ADA tube preamp, sometimes I hook it up to the gp's send returns, very nice sounding real tubes but the gp does a very good job whitouth the real thing.
