Boss VF-1 Effect Processor

I currently bought a boss vf-1, but I seem to be really bad at trying 
to get the right sounds out of it. I'm not even sure if it will 
support the fx that I'm going for. Does anybody know if the VF-1 can 
do the echo guitar distortion that U2 is so famous for in songs like 
"In God's Country" or "Where the streets have no name". If so, I 
would appreciate any sort of help.
