I will be sendign some more setting thoughts regarding the VF! but i have been findign the same thign in regards to keeping the processing subtle.  I usually compliment the processor with analog pedals (Vodoo sparkle and marshall trem-vibe) and I also run in stereo (2 fender hot rods) so I am able to take advantage of the VF1 felxibility - good to see others thinking and like i said i will add more soon...
