Still wanting to get a VF-1

Still wanting to get a VF-1

2001-08-14 by Joris van den Heuvel

Hi everybody,
Since I've been having a very hard time to find any info whatsoever on the VF-1, especially the manual, I want to ask a few questions about it:
  • WHY, oh why, is there nothing on the Net about this unit?????????? It's not as if it's new (released Oct '99 IIRC), and it's not as if it's crap (read about 15 very positive reviews). Why doesn't Roland/Boss supply info on their products? Any of them!
So much for my rant, now for some real questions:
  • Does it simulate the full line of Boss compact pedals? All 30 or so (bass included), and do they use the same controls, or are they more detailed?
  • What bass amp models are there?
  • How many types of distortion does it have?
  • Is it possible to use an effect more than once in a chain? Can you put effects in parallel (as in a side chain)?
  • If you could spare the time it takes, could I have a list of all effects?
  • How do these algorythm thingies work? I'm not familiar with this.
Well that's about it. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer some of the questions.
Joris.

ok ,so you are at same stateof mind as me before i took the risk to get the
vf -1...
yes this is a risk because you are right ,there a outrageous silence around
the vf-1,but think about the price and the possibility...there is nothing
that can bring it to you.
You can chain some of your effect where you want(preamp,eq,mod, for
example),well in the best position that can be 'plausible',delay before
distortion for example(if you like Tool or Perfect circle ,you know what i
mean..)
I use a lot of amps and multi effect and pedals well you can't be deceived
by a vf-1(i don't work in Roland industry),the only thing that is a problem
is the lack of software related to it ,and the global lack of information but
if you other details wrote....therefore i go to sleep ,it's late for me ,i'm
back from a party....goodnight!

Hey'all,
I won't be bugging you anymore with all those questions. I made an appointment Saturday next week, to go try one out. They have to order it for me. It'll take me a whole afternoon, but whadda heck! All in all, searching the web has taken more time than that. BTW I found some more info on the VF-1 at Musiciansfriend.com. They also have sound samples on-line. That's about as much info I could find in one place. Still no effects list. Maybe I could build a site of my own, and put all there is to know about it on-line (blink eye)...
Probably I'll order the VF-1 SysEx manual right away, if I decide to buy it. Or maybe I could ask Bert (you seem to be Dutch too) to help me with it. I want to be able to extract the patch names so I can display them separately in a live setup.
See ya.
Regards,
Joris.

Hi Joris

Surf to:
http://www.lilchips.com/roland/boss/effects/vf1/review.asp
for an overview of algorithms and effects of the VF-1.
You will also find some sound samples.

Regards
Bert

Hello again !!!just one thing, the first time i try the vf-1,i was about to
put it and break it on my amp!!!that's true!be careful ,there are some
adjustment to do to be shure to have a killer sound(if's you play on a pc,a
stack a combo,etc...)(but not only that:it's depend the type of amp you use
the impédance of the re turn line etc..)but when you understand what
adjustment goes or not you can do everything mostly ;if you have an ugly
sound don't be afraid ,you can wrote i'll try to help you if i can...bye.
