Boss VF-1 Effect Processor

I have been trying to use an Ernie Ball volume pedal as a continuous
controller to control the volume on my VF-1. Nothing fancy, just want to use
it as a volume/expression pedal. I have wired up a cable with TRS at one end
and TS at the other, tried just standard guitar cables, read the manual and
come up with nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.
