any ideas on whether you could use a ev5 at the same time as a 
footswitch,ie any adaptor etc, so it can run similar to the gt series.

I believe you can use either the ev5 or two foot switches. However, you
can't use them together. To operate it like the GT series, you'll need a
midi foot controller. Digitech makes a fairly inexpensive one (~$125), but I
don't know the model #. Check out their website for info.
