newbie asks "where are the archives, the patches?"

newbie asks "where are the archives, the patches?"

2005-11-30 by mungenast_tim

Hello, Fellow Sonic Explorers!

I am just getting to know my excellent VF-1 (which I am running into
my MXP-500 and from there into my Vortex). I am surprised at how
wonderful the presets are, especially the noisemaker patches that
were not meant to work with guitar...ironically, many of those sound
great with guitar!

Anyway, there are some sounds in my head that I have trouble arriving
at just by changing the prestets, and since I do not have as much
time as I'd like for tweeking, I could use some help in the form of
ohter people's patches, from which I can develop my own sounds
without starting from nothing.

The trouble is, I do not see any archives here. I see postings where
people MENTION archives, but no hotlink saying "Archives." Where do
you guys keep the good stuff?

Thanks,
Tim Mungenast

Detune Chorus cutout Re: newbie asks "where are the archives, the patches?"

2005-12-07 by mungenast_tim

Thanks! I sent you a reply yesterday but when I hit Send, I got
bounced out and it looks like the system never sent my e-mail. (Can
you say "KLUGE?")
Anyway, can you guys help me with another question, this one
concerning the Detune Chorus preset? It's wonderful, but it
intermittently passes straight dry audio as I play, e.g., dry,
processed, dry, processed... the other patches (mine and the
factory's) seem to be behaving themselves.
I'd be very grateful for any insights.
Cheers,
Tim

2005-12-07 by mungenast_tim

Unfortunately, I cannot open about 80% of these (sigh). One of them,
for instance (.mdf?), just opens for a nanosecond and then disappears
with a little "boink" sound. Even though I allegedly loaded it onto
my desktop, it does not seem to exist anywhere in my computer. It
went "poof" like olde-tyme flashpaper. Then the others require Quick
View, which says I need to install it with a Windows CDROM, which I
do not have. I hate computers.
I am grateful for all the help, I just wish I could *access* that
help.
Clueless Yet Again,
Tim

Hi,

I took a quick look in the files section, I haven't been there since I
downloaded some things and patches years ago.

It's more as only patches down there.

Did you ever do a sysex dump before ?
What's your computer setup, do you know Midi - ox ?

On the download page only tjhe Syx files are patches, some of the are
zipped.
Maybe there are some midi or mid files also who can contain patches.

It's years ago but I do remember having trouble with some patches, not
sure anymore.
But there are some patches worht checking out.
Most guitarstuff i think.

Anyway,

Sjaak

Yahoo can be strange and unpredictable sometimes.
Sometimes my mail doesn't arrive or hours later.

But most time it's ok.

would say.

Ok, midiot makes sense, let's try to get you doing midi bulk dumps.
And/or sysex dumps.

The manual has dedicated a few pages on these subjects.

And do you have sequencer as Cubase or Cakewalk on your pc ?
If not you might need Mid-ox (free) for sending and receiving patches.

If your in the mood for some more reading, i think Harmony Central
wrote some usefull things about midi and sysex dumps.
