Electroluminescent panels always fade with use, it's inevitible and doesn't 
necessarily indicate a design flaw.

Though there could be a flaw causing the backlight to fade more quickly and 
creating interference as the panel dims..

Has anyone come up with a decent solution using LED backlighting?  That 
would be ideal as it wouldn't fade.
