Re: cz patches

2012-08-20 by steve_the_composer

Thanks for the reply, Daniel.

It looks like 8 years ago I created and posted a set of midi files to let uses demo patches. I seem to recall testing it on the CZ3000/5000 and CZ-1. (See readme.txt.) I did not test the CZ101/1000. If someone can confirm that they work, I would be interested to know. On the other hand, if they don't work, I'd be interested to know that, too.

As I recall, the files send a single patch dump (1 preset) to the temporary area (sound memory) and then either play a short progression (possibly I-IV-I) or some notes. These files have 32 such demos (patch to sound area followed by chords/notes).

My goal was to create a simple system where people could create banks of patches which could be auditioned without overwriting stored patches. At any point before then next patch was sent to the CZ, the sequencer can be stopped and a person could play around with the patch to do further exploration. The patch could then be saved to the user's own choice of patch slots if so desired and the remaining patches in the file could then be auditioned.

I don't think handshaking is involved. I think all you need is a single midi cable from the sequencer to your CZ. If I recall correctly, there is no need to have a round trip midi hook-up. I will have to check that; 8 years ago I had much more confidence in my memory.

In all these years since I posted the files, I don't recall anyone ever saying they tried them. (Maybe they did and I don't remember?) Still, I think this type of thing beats typing in pages of patches only to find 1 or 2 "good" ones out of 128 or transferring bank after bank and having to press all the buttons to hunt for "good" patches, only to have to reload the ones in there before searching.
