My 1980s synth-pop band - with CZ-101!

2013-10-01 by Simon Beck

During the 1980s I was involved in many bands, one of which was an electro-pop duo called Mix It Up". They consisted on singer/songwriter Anthea Wormington, previously with The Difference (in which I had played bass), and myself on all instruments. When we played live, we used a Fostex X-15 4-track cassette player as backing, with each song on its own cassette. The backing tracks were remakes of our demos, with drum machine, piano, Hohner Pianet T, Casio CT-202 and CZ-101 synths, chromatic harmonica and percussion but no bass or vocals. I always played bass guitar live, except for one song when I strapped on the CZ-101 and played the bass-line keytar-style!
By the time we actually recorded our only record, the 4-song EP on this site, I had carefully replicated my favourite CT-202 sounds on the CZ-101, so all the synth sounds you hear are CZ. The studio had a Fender Rhodes set up, so I used that instead of my Pianet. They also had a very expensive plate reverb unit...
