Have you tried to change the setting of contrast variable resistor VR2 on the main board MA1M? Maybe it will help... I have changed display in my CZ3000 for modern one with LED backlight, even I couldn't find service manual for this machine. I had only that one for CZ5000 and other CZ instruments, fortunately it looks like they use the same standard of controller (14 pin HD44780).
