New to CZ group...

2002-12-23 by Craig Wiper

Hi folks. I've been a CZ-101 user since the early '80's. When the CZ-101 first came out, I bought one.

I'm a guitar player (since 1963) by trade, and got the electronic music bug in the mid '70's. I built a couple of PAIA patch-bay synthesizers back then which taught me all about the inner workings of music synthesis, etc. Not being a keyboard player per se, I used the synths to create textures, tones and sequencer lines. Lots of experimenting.

In the early '80's, I saw a CZ-101 at a local department store of all places, and had to have it. Polyphonic synthesis at a cheap price. This was technically a digital synthesizer, but had more or less the same type of tweakable parameters as my earlier analog patch-bay versions, only without all of the cables; and this one would play in better tune!

I did use it live a few times in the bands I was in, but mainly just used the 101 at home for fun. I still am involved with 3 bands today, and just pulled the CZ-101 out of the closet for the first time in years. I read last week about a new synth box called a Dave Smith Instrument's Evolver. It is a combination of analog and digital monophonic synthesis. I had to have one of those too, so I just purchased one. Haven't received it yet. That's what got me interested in the CZ-101 again. I thought I could use it as a keyboard controller. I had forgotten what a cool instrument the little CZ is.

That's my story. I look forward to keeping an eye on this list and seeing what the rest of you are doing with your CZ's.

Best regards,
