newbie -- Bass Tips?

newbie -- Bass Tips?

2003-05-26 by binkydogdog

Hi,

Today I bought a VZ-8m, it's great! I've been playing with it all
day. I'm really glad I found this group, the PowerPlay book will
help a lot. I don't have a manual.

I'm a bassist, and I use an old Roland GR77B midibass. It's
basically a JX8P designed to be run from the 24 pin bass output. I
got the VZ so I could have more sounds, and so far I like what I'm
hearing.

Does anyone have tips on how to optimize the VZ8m for bass? Some of
the patches go too low to be usable, even for me (which is *very*
low, because I run an 18" sub w/ lots of power - I've been standing
in front of it and some of the low tones make me feel woozy,
cool!!!). Also, the 8M lets you pick Keys, Wind, or Guitar as the
input configuration – for some reason Wind works a little better
than Guitar for me. Tracking is not as good as my Roland, but I'm
sure I can fix that once I learn how to tweak the sensitivity.

Thanks!

Jon

Hi Jon,

in general most of the informations you can find about FM-Synthesis
work as well with the VZ synths. I also wrote a little quite
incomplete guide that should give you an idea how to convert FM stuff
to the VZ, that you can find in the files section of this list as
well...
You should also check the link section, hopefully some of the links
still bring you to sounds and usefull informations... :)
