No Internal Memory.....at all,

No Internal Memory.....at all,

2004-06-05 by drewaight

Howdy yall. I just bought a CZ101 off of ebay....I love the sounds!

Unfortunately I think i got jipped because I am not able to get the
Internal Memory led to light at all. I try editing a patch then
holding write and pressing the Internal Memory button....nothing.
Also SoundDiver cannot write to the user banks either, indicating to
me that its not just the Internal Memory button.

Has anyone else heard of this problem at all? I can't find any
information on any forums nor the internet. If someone knows how it
can be repaired I am quite handy having repaired other synths in the
past, but the CZ-101 seems like a real pain after having cracked the
case and had a look.

Is there indeed a lithum battery somewhere in there, or could the
user RAM have gone bad? Considering the amount of bends people
perform on these babies there has to be some more technical info out
there.

Thanks so much for any help at all.

                                        Drew

there is a small hole on the back with a (P) marking, it is supposed
to reset the internal memory to the original sounds assigned to the
internal memory.. worth a try!

Are you sure that the internal memory lock isn't on? As I remember it, this is a small sider switch on the rear panel.

I don't think so; I think that the regular batteries are what keep
the user patches stored in memory when the unit is disconnected from
AC power.

I'm a very new CZ user but, from what I've gathered, the CZs in
general are notorious for losing user patches.

I concur: I don't think there is a separate lithium
battery in the CZ. I would lose patches if I take
out the batteries.

A RAM card or a frequent MIDI dump would
solve the problem (the latter is relatively
easy to do and I think should be a part
of regular maintenenace in everybody's
studio)

I found a copy of the following mod that allows you to replac the
batteries with a single 9v. Should work well tp keep patches when its
plugged in, and while you taking it to gigs.

Peter

Tons of other cool mods there as well. I like the power over midi
cable one the best.

I just wish that had been scanned large enough to read.
