cz1 eg's ?

cz1 eg's ?

2004-11-16 by stefanbonnet

Hello,
I'm thinking about buying a cz1 (my 101 died months ago, and I miss
its sound) but it seems like its enveloppes are slightly different
from other cz's. I'd just like to be sure they're not like those on
the vz (not quite as fast, more linear_to my ears...), and that the
ONLY difference is the velocity sensibility ! thanks.

I did exactly what you are considering a few years ago (dead 101; bought CZ-1 for £85 on Loot) and all my old CZ patches work perfectly, with optional velocity an added bonus. The only functional difference is the default value of the envelopes when you initialise them, and that only makes a difference if you had sloppy programming habits with the CZ-101!

I now use my CZ-1 not only as a backup MIDI controller (saves me having to take my very heavy Studiologic 88-note keyboard to jams) but also for its Hammond and combo organ sounds, which are now 8-note or even 16-note polyphonic. I put the CZ through a volume pedal and a Danelectro "Rocky Road" Leslie simulator (£50) and MIDI it up to an Alesis NanoPiano module (£80 s/h) through a Danelectro"Tuna Melt" tremolo pedal (£30). I can switch the piano sound on or off with the MIDI button on the CZ, and use the volume pedal to turn the organ sound up, down or even off.

It's an ideal rig for my style of music, which covers blues, rock, reggae and new-wave.

Hi,

I think CZ-1's EG is the same as other CZs', and the only difference
is the velocity sensitivity.
But velocity affects the levels of the EG. As CZ uses Rate parameters
for EGs, level difference affects the time of each step, and this may
lead to differences in EG.

Best,
Sealed
