Casio CZ/ VZ/ FZ - Pro Series

Hello there - I recently picked up a cz-101 at a car boot sale with
which I'm having some problems with. Basically, it won't start up. All
the lights come on for a split second then all the pixels on the
screen come on until i switch it off. Sometimes, (or, i have
discovered, always if i hold down the ring-modulation button while
switching it on) it manages to boot and for a tantalising approx. 2
seconds max I can get sounds out of it. As far as I can tell, all the
correct voltages are being supplied to the main board, I've tried it
with batteries and ac/dc adaptor, and frankly i'm a bit stuck.

Do you reckon you could throw any light on this conundrum? Any ideas
would be gratefully recieved.

That's a tricky problem...  Does anyone know if there are any CZ-101 service 
manuals floating around?  That wold probably help the most...

You can buy one from Howard Sams.  Go to 
http://www.samswebsite.com  and get their toll free phone number.  
The service manual, last time I checked, was not available on the 
web site but you could get it by calling them.

Actually, you can order the manuals on-line.  Search for CZ101 instead
of CZ-101.  On a quick look I found both the CZ101 and the FZ20M.  Now
I need to start saving so that I can get a complete set for all my
Casio gear (CZ-101, CZ-1, VZ-10M, VZ-8M, FZ-10M, FZ-20M, & SZ-1)

thanks for all your suggestions - i had a look on the website for 
technical manuals but it looks like its probably the same user 
manual that i've already downloaded, which doesn't really go into 
enough technical detail to be much use for repairs. i'll let you all 
know if i have any luck.
