Take ebay for instance-I don't get it! Why does the cz-1000's and the 101's go for double what cz-1 sell for. Why does this happen? Does everybody else know something about these boards that I don't? The cz-1 is a better synth-more stuff, more everything, even more keys. Why don't they seem to sell as well? DOes anyone else notice this...' micah

It's probably because the CZ-1 is big and heavy in comparison to the 101 and 1000, sometimes people value something they can stick into a corner when they don't need it. It's been a while since I checked the prices but I seem to remember the DX100 similarly fetching more than it should.

That's probably correct. Most people have only used it's little bro's without the additional features the CZ-1 offers. Anyhow, studios nowadays consist of a computer and a desk. CZ-1's are big and costly to post and take up a lot of room. Unless you are prepared to use its superior features, what's the point. If you want bog standard PD/FM sounds a controller plus sizer which fits on your computer desk the CZ101, 1000 are perfect. If your a CZ-1 owner then you'll know it's more fool them! I've seen CZ3000/5000 units go for double the CZ-1's advertised. I still think it's the best Casio ever made to date. Even better than the VZ range and I've got one of those too. Let's face it they're so rare and so little was ever published about them that unless you've used one you'll not know what your missing.

The CZ-1 is one, if not my favorite synth I have ever owned. mb y[]a[]z[]z[]o[]f[]e[]v[]e[]r[] __________________________________ Discover Yahoo! i belive it got to do with the postage cost. they're almost identical in sound generation so ppl do not seem to bother that much about backlite screen, velocity sensitive keys, chorus and some other things, the main thing with CZ's is the sound-engine i think. cannot remeber seen any CZ-1 cheaper than 101 or 1000 though! It propably has something to do with popularity - the CZ101/1000 is more popular than the other CZs, but that's just my theory. The portability of the CZ101 may play a role too since the CZ 1000 is still bigger than the 101. It's also said that the 101 has more punch to it's sound. --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, KW <memtechlist@y...> wrote: > i belive it got to do with the postage cost. they're almost identical in sound generation so ppl do not seem to bother that much about backlite screen, velocity sensitive keys, chorus and some other things, the main thing with CZ's is the sound-engine i think. > cannot remeber seen any CZ-1 cheaper than 101 or 1000 though! > > > Scott Nordlund <gsn10@h...> skrev: > >Why does the cz-1000's and the 101's go for double what cz-1 sell for. > >Why does this happen? The main influence on the price of CZ-series synths is probably the name and reputation of the 101 - it was the first in the series (like Yamaha's DX-7) and immediately found use on well-known recordings by name bands. So "...how did so-and-so get that bass sound?" "It was a Casio CZ-101." "Must get one then!" without necessarily knowing that there are more powerful versions capable of producing the same sounds. The 101 is the one that people have heard of, so it's the one that folk want unless they're Casio freaks or have done their research. In a way it's good - it keeps the prices of the big ones low! And who's heard of the immensely powerful Yamaha DX-5 or DX-1? Thought not... Simon Beck London, UK

It propably has something to do with popularity - the CZ101/1000 is
more popular than the other CZs, but that's just my theory. The
portability of the CZ101 may play a role too since the CZ 1000 is
still bigger than the 101. It's also said that the 101 has more
punch to it's sound.

Great point Simon, Your analogy about the dx-7/dx-1 is right on, except for the fact that the dx-1 is about as big as a "mini" and cost about the same :), that might be some reasons for a couple of strikes against it.... micah --- Simon Beck <simon@...> wrote: > the immensely powerful Yamaha DX-5 or DX-1? > Thought not... y[]a[]z[]z[]o[]f[]e[]v[]e[]r[] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
