What do YOU own?

What do YOU own?

2006-04-27 by Larry T.

Okay, this group has 1198 members who only own a total of 133 Casio
Synths/Samplers between them?????

Whats up with that?

There is a poll, opened in NOVEMBER OF 2003 (!!) to see how many of
what the members of this list have. And while it may not list every
single possible Casio unit, it pretty much covers the bases.

Please, go to
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/CZsynth/surveys?id=1156573
and indicate which unit (or units) you own. If you have one that is
not listed, select the closes thing to it maybe?

Since many of us have more then one unit, we should get some
interesting numbers in this poll if everyone will just take 2 minutes
to open their browser and answer the poll.

We may be able to help each other better if we understand what the
distribution of equipment looks like. So please, vote (or oudate your
vote if have already voted) today!

Just voted. I've owned a Casio CZ-101 since I bought it new in a
department store in 1983 for $300. I still use it live off & on today.
Typically I'll wear it like a guitar and use it for synth-bass licks.

Re: [CZsynth] What do YOU own?

I've have a CZ-5000 that I picked up at a Pawn shop in Ft. Collins,
Colorado in 1996 for about
$200. I played it till 2002, when I sold it to some guy for $100 just
before I moved to
New Orleans. When Katrina sent me back to Colorado, with most of my gear
damaged,
The guy I sold it to gave it back to me. Befor, I just used it to midi
out to a Roland JV1010,
I'm just now learning to appreciate it's unique sounds and modeling
methods, thanks to this
group. I just joined this group in hopes of finding a manual. I never
did find a manual, but I
have enjoyed the postings, and have learned a great deal about my Casio.

Re: [CZsynth] What do YOU own?

2006-04-27 by Simon Beck

I don't own any classic Casio synths any more. I had a CT-202 back in 1981 which I gave to a local museum about 15 years ago, I had a CZ-101 which I bought new in 1985 - it stopped working so I threw it away - and most recently I bought a second-hand CZ-1, which got stolen from my car. I also owned a CPS-101 electronic piano, which I gave away, and I now own a WK-3000 which I play in bands (great electric piano and organ sounds). So I answered "Other".

Re: What do YOU own?

Rich

Look for a CZ-101 or CZ-1000 manual. Basically, all of the CZ's work
exactly alike except for the sequencer on the 5000, and the aftertouch
on the CZ-1. The voice system is identical. I don't have any links,
but I know that there are manuals on-line for the 101 and/or 1000. If
you can find a manual for the SZ-1 (please let me know as I need one)
I believe the sequencer in the 5000 works the same way (but I could be
wrong).

Thanks Larry,

You are in luck. I have a SZ-1 manual. I have no idea where I got it, but
I downloaded it from somewhere. I just posted it on my website.
Here's a Link - It's a PDF, Look in the Casio folder

Larry,

I just looked at that SZ-1 Manual, and I or my brother obviously
downloaded it from the
http://www.cosmosynthesizer.de/ amazing website, My experience it to
always check there first.
They really should get credit for providing a great deal of valuable
resource to the CZ community.

>Well, I mistakenly thought the keyboard given to me was a CZ-101 and
I was trying to find a cartridge for it, and somebody replied that it
doesn't need a cartridge. When I checked the controls noticing it
didn't have that configuration, I saw that it was a CZ-1000. I was
checking it out and decided to pull the panel and found some wires
we're pulled out or reattached but not correctly. So, I own one that
I want to get working. I'm hoping it happens. You see, I'm a
musician, a drummer to be exact I also sing, and write lyrics and I
have a band I'm working with. But I've learned to play keyboards by
ear and have all kinds of investment in recording equipment,
microphones, and 2 drumsets with percussion. So another investment is
tough right now. I've learned to use and play to midi files of my
favorite covers and have some done with live drumming I will put on
my own web page soon plus I've composed some tunes through
cakewalk/sonor software in the midi format. I'm into it but, working
on my casio. Is it still a cartridge needing keyboard or does it have
a by-pass like the CZ-101? What can I do? Thanks

Memory Cartridges (was:: What do YOU own?)

2006-04-28 by Larry T.

All of the Casio synths (CZ's, VZ's) will work just fine without a
memory cartridge. The cartridge was implemented to allow backups of
modified internal sounds, and extension of the number of available
sounds. Without a cartridge, you can still create/modify/save custom
sounds in your CZ, just not as many of them. If you get a MIDI
editor/librarian, you can save/load a virtually infinite number of
sounds and have no real need of a cartridge. In any case, the CZ's
have the cartridge slot on the back so it's not obvious when using the
synth that it has either the slot or a cartridge inserted.

Best of luck with the 'loose wires'. I've never opened up either my
CZ-101 or my CZ-1 so I have no idea what you maybe facing to get it
working. But once it is working, I'm certain you're going to like it.

Re: [CZsynth] Memory Cartridges (was:: What do YOU own?)

2006-04-28 by Stephen Z. Arce

I have a lot of experience with electro-nix! The person that gave me the CZ had said that it would not work without a cartridge( a guitarist-ha!) . I can't wait to get into it and fix those wires and see what happens. I'll keep the communication going as to what happens.Your response was very helpful and my compliments overall to this website.

Just posted some photos of my CZ2000S. This might be one of the rarest
of the CZ series. Anyone else have a rare CZ ?

Thanks for posting the pix. I've never seen one before.

The only "rare" Casio I have is the TB-1 [Thru Box]. Is the original
power supply for the DH-100 considered rare?

Seriously, you are the only person I've heard of who ever had a
CZ2000S.

I have a TB-1 also.

and a VA-10, SK-8 and HT-6000, which I think are also pretty rare.

Re: [CZsynth] Re: What do YOU own?

2006-05-01 by Mikael Altemark

Seems there are many more people owning more than one casio synths than
I thought. Brand loyalty? Excellent instruments? The relative cheapness?
Living in the 80's? Could be all of the above for some, or just one
reason.. what is it for you?

I own a VZ-10M (fun if you like the challenge of programming synthesis,
and the following mental breakdowns), a CZ-3000, a CZ-101 and my sisters
old SK-1

Lots of us are telling what we own. But is everyone updating the poll?

Re: What do YOU own?

2006-05-01 by Jeff

I own Casio stuff because my first synth was a cz-5000, which
impressed the heck out of me, and I didn't have much money to build
my music studio. I ended up with

2 sk-1
1 sk-5
1 midi piano sound module
1 midi router
1 cz-5000 keyboard synth
1 fz-1 keyboard sampler/synth

I have the original operating books or copies for everything exept
the midi router, and I have software for the fz-1. I have been trying
to track down a trade paperback on synth programming based on Casio's
phase modulation system for a few years, without luck. They books
that came with the equipment are pretty good, however.

I have a memory module for the cz-5000. The two big keyboards are a
permanent part of my studio configuration. I use the cz-5000 for
sound output only, and i use the fz-1 as my keyboard, as well as a
sampler occaisionally. When I got a little more money and a little
more understanding, I also bought Roland equipment, and thought about
performing as Roland Casio for a while, but I have never made it out
of my basement as a musician yet.

I have a CZ1000 that no longer works under my bed. I also am the proud
owner of a Yamaha DX7 E! hooked up thru MIDI to a Casio CT700. At one
point many years ago I had 17 vintage synths that I practically gave away.

Do you want to get rid of it? I have a cz-1000 that might need a part. I'm not sure yet as there are no schematics to assure me that some re-wiring I had to do will enable it to work or fry something internally. I'm going to have a friend look at it and test some connections to hopefully help me. I can't afford another peice of equipment as I have invested a fortune in my drums and recording equipment but I've wanted to get a keyboard forever and this was given to me. Let me know! Thanks
