CZ series overview?

CZ series overview?

2001-09-03 by HC

Hello,

I am new to Casio synths - I have recently bought a VZ10m, and while I am still trying to understand it, I am pretty happy with it already. Therefore I may venture further and get me a CZ.

My question therefore is pretty general: Is there a site that outlines the differences between the CZ series synths? Like CZ100, CZ101, CZ1000...? I think I have seen a CZ-1 being sold on ebay, that seemed to be the top dog!?

Also: I understand that the VZ10m is not really the rack version of the CZs, but different - are there are other rack models out there?

Thanks for any hint or URL on the issue

HC

The CZ-1 is the top dog, it's the only one that is velocity sensitive and
allows you to program op mems like what you see on the VZ10. A brief
breakdown is this:

CZ101/1000: 4 note polyphony(CZ101 has miniature keys and is smaller),
layering 2 patches forces the CZ101/1000 into monophonic mode.

CZ3000/CZ5000: 8 note polyphony, adds mod wheel, layering here reduces the
polyphony to 4 notes, the CZ5000 also has a really basic built in
sequencer.

CZ1: 8 note polyphony, velocity sensitive, channel after touch, DCF and DCA
can respond to velocity,LFO modulation and volume can respond to aftertouch
and there are op-mems so that you can save key splits and layers as patchs.

Go for the CZ1 it's much more useful and not that much more expensive these
days.

RE: [CZsynth] CZ series overview?

2001-09-04 by Summa

To complete this...

The CZ-1 can be up to 8 times multitimbral. A fixed amount of voices can be
set for each of the 8 possible midi channels. I used that mode quite often
when I only had a few synths and HD - Recording was too expensive...

The others do have (besides the poly mode) a midi mono mode, that way 8
voices can play up to 4 (for CZ101 and 1000) or 8 different sounds and in
the mode one voice is always assigned to one midi channel...
I think the CZ5000 behaves a bit different and was only multitimbral when
used with the internal sequencer, but I'm not sure about this...

The CZs are a lot easier to programm then the VZ due to their subtractive
synth like architecture the VZ are more like DX synths but sound a bit
warmer but not as subtractive as the CZ...
