Last hope: RZ-1 drum original patterns

Last hope: RZ-1 drum original patterns

2008-04-21 by sylvain_chenard

Hi
I looked around without luck and since many new member joined the
group since I last post this request. I'm trying again. Hopefully this
is not going to be considered spam... here it goes:
I own a RZ1 since 1987 and I stopped using it 10 years ago...
unfortunately I lost its original drum patterns (Battery died)... I
didn't recorded them using the famous MT interface...
The manual indicates: The RZ-1 is preprogrammed before shipment from
the factory with 60 rhythm patterns..<snip>..It is suggested that
these patterns be stored on cassette tape using MT function....

Well I didn't backup the patterns then... and I lost my patterns.
Since I replaced the battery.
Does any of you have the original drum patterns in the MT format, so I
can transfer on a tape and reload my RZ1?
I would love a reply with the drum pattern backup as a wav or mp3 or a
location where i can get them.

Some of my notes relies on the pattern number in order to recreate the
song (I know it was a bad idea)....

Thanks,

Sylvain

Sylvain,

I have an RZ-1 data backup on an audio cassette. I'm guessing the patterns are factory or at least near-factory. I can convert it to WAV for you. That's the best solution since the cassette's here, but the RZ-1's in storage 175 miles away. Feel free to remind me if too much time passes before you hear from me again. Bit overwhelmed with other stuff at the moment.

  Brian

Brian,

Having the wave file would be just perfect.... Can you convert it
for me? I wonder how big the file will be , so let me know... you
can send it via either email or yahoo file transfer. (I'm online,
from 8:00 am to ~5:00pm EDT. Monday to Friday).

Thanks a lot, and hoping to hear from you soon!

Sylvain

Sylvain,

I've transferred the RZ-1 data cassette to my portable USB recorder. So I've made some progress. Next step is to transfer the file to my Mac/Audacity for some editing. Then I'll be able to send you the WAVs - via yousendit. I made quite a few backups (to my astonishment) - both rhythm and sample data. Since some of the contents are a mystery, I'll post it all for you to sift through. Won't be too much longer.

  Brian

I am curious to know if you tried sysex dumps. That might be more
reliable than wav files and smaller, too. --Steve

I only had on hand the audio cassette I used for backup. The RZ-1's in storage.

Sylvain,

You should already have received two emails - about a week ago. One from me directly explaining what I sent, and a second from yousendit with a link to the download. If you haven't, I can resend. Let me know.

Brian

Sylvain,

The second RZ-1 Zip archive has been uploaded to yousendit. You should receive an email with the link shortly.
