I found the cse02install file on other sites so I opened it. It
actually is a CZ patch editor program. It probably works on editing
patches on the CZ101 and the other synths in the CZ series but only
loads or saves 16 patches in a bank. The blurb underneath the file
says the file contains "masses of sounds." But I did not find any
patches in the file or included in the program.

I cannot use Midiquest to dump or save patch banks from my CZ1 since
it does NOT work with my CZ1. (However Midiquest seems to work
dumping and loading patches from the CZ101). I do all my CZ1 editing
and patch saving using SoundDiver. (Not because it is particularly
user friendly - only because it Works).

I have been picking through some of the CZ101 banks from the net and
moving them to form 64 patch bank sets on my CZ1. I will download
them to the files section soon in sysex format. The sounds I have
been selecting to use in my CZ1 banks are almost all synth pads and
leads.

The 64 "operation memory" (combination) patches are all "tone mixes"
combining two voice patches. SoundDiver has been especially helpful
with editing the operation memory patches since I have been
unsuccessful in figuring out how to edit the operation memory patches
from the CZ1 itself. I read the manual a couple of times but maybe
after I read it some more times it will make sense. This part of the
CZ1 was very poorly implemented.

Sorry about mentioning SoundDiver as it is not available for sale
anywhere anymore but like I said Midiquest does not work with the
CZ1. I posted a utility "SendSX122.exe" a couple of days ago to the
files section. This program will successfully load and save banks
from your CZ1 in sysex format.

I use a PC running Windows XP. I do use Midiquest 10 for those
synths that it works with. (It is very user friendly).

Hi Fish,
Midiquest gave me an updated instrument profile that works with
dumping 64 CZ1 patches. It still won't work with the Operation
Memories or the velocity settings for the DCO, DCW, and DCA but hey
what can you do. I spent a whole weekend capturing all the Op Memory
sysex data and sent it to MQ but nothing ever came of it. I haven't
tried SoundDiver with the CZ1 even though I have an old copy
installed on an older PC. Speaking of dead horses, Unisyn works great
with the CZ1. Dumps and captures patches (with velocities) and Op
Mems without any issues. Won't run on XP but again ya can't have
everything. These older keyboards are a blast and MQ makes it a whole
lot more fun....

You're welcome to the MQ9 profile I have. I think it will work. I
have some huge CZ Libraries too. To use just rename the old
instrument folder then substitute the new folder in the instrument
directory.

I looked at the Op Mems and had to remember how to edit them. I Could
not find this in the manual.

First select the Operation Memory key and it will light. Then select
the Bank and Number for the location you want to write over. Remember
this location. The left and right arrow keys will select between the
patches (tones) shown on the display for the Tone Mix and Key Split
modes. Next press Normal, Tone Mix, or Key Split to select the mode
you want. The Op Mem light will go out, don't worry (be happy.) Next
using the side arrow keys select the 2 patches desired by bank and
number. You can now use the page up and down to set the parameters
for the type of Op Mem you're creating. Split Points, Volume, Chorus,
Octaves, etc... Also remember to set the Modulation, Portamento,
Glide, Solo, or whatever to On or Off as the Op Mem stores this too.
Next press write and then the Op Mem key. The display will
show "Write (OP Mem) Select Memory". Select the previously remembered
location and it's done.

Fun eh? If you want the files let me know. Keep on CZing....
