Casio CZs with Behringer BCR2000

Casio CZs with Behringer BCR2000

2009-09-29 by fingermushxo3

Hey guys, long time member, first question. I recently bought a Behringer BCR2000 & I've tried to use it with Multi effects pedals; to no avail. I probably don't understand it fully, yet.

My question is can you program & use the BCR2000 via Sysex to program it via a computer editor & maybe as a stand alone sysex editor? If this is possible it'd open up a lot of potential in the programming & live spectrum.

Just a thought.

Never tried it, but I think it would be awkward, because you have to send the CZ a complete patch each time, not just one parameter change. But you can certainly program whatever sysex you like into the Behringer.

If you post on vintagesynth.com you're likely to find someone who has already done it.

In another group I belong to there is at least one individual with extensive knowledge and experience with the BCR2000. (I have none, other than looking at the manual and being very impressed.)

I'd recommend finding a group of BCR2000 users or a group of people who use it with the same line of gear you use. What synth gear are you trying to use it with?

Also, see comment below.

You have several questions nested in here. I was under the impression that (1) you can use the BCR2000 to control gear via sysex and(2) you can program the BCR2000 via its user interface and software (possibly third party).

As I understand it, you can program the BCR2000 to output sysex to your gear in a variety of ways based on how your gear understands and handles sysex. Is this what you mean by "a stand alone sysex editor?"

From the documentation and the few discussions I've had, this is indeed the purpose of the BCR2000 (and related family members). You program it so you can control gear in real-time via sysex commands.

Again, I took a quick look at the manual and participated in a problem-solving discussion on another board.

If I was lucky enough to have one, I don't think I would use it with a Casio CZ or VZ.

Hey Steve,

I'm currently programing it to control my Korg Prophecy, as the prophecy communicates with the BCR just fine.

When I bought the BCR2000, I had intended to program it to run a Boss GT-3 multi-effector & a digitech GNX4. I got mixed results from that route.

I'll look into using the bcr2000 with one of the CZ-editors & maybe I can figure out a way to edit the CZ with it.

Its good that the BCR2000 works reasonably well with some of your gear. I highly doubt you will be able to edit CZ patches with it, though. There are no commands to edit individual parameters in the CZ. You can edit a patch using computer software and then dump the entire patch to the CZ, but from what I have seen with of the BCR2000, you cannot do that. (I could be wrong, though.) Perhaps if there were a software editor that could be controlled by the BCR2000, you might be able to do it. Best Wishes. --Steve
