Casio FZ Samples/FZDump

2011-07-06 by pctech333

A couple questions - has anyone made the cable required to use FZ Dump? I am planning on making one with a M/F jumper box so I can use a standard DB25 cable and adapt it before it reaches the FZ1, I just want to be sure this is correct first:

       FZ                        PC
DATA0    1       <-----330------>     2
DATA1    3       <-----330------>     3
DATA2    5       <-----330------>     4
DATA3    7       <-----330------>     5
DATA4    9       <-----330------>     6
DATA5   11       <-----330------>     7
DATA6   13       <-----330------>     8
DATA7   15       <-----330------>     9
EARTH    2       <-------------->    25
STROBE  19       <---------------     1
ACK     21       <---------------    16
STROBE  22       --------------->    10
BUSY    24       <---------------    17
BUSY    25       --------------->    11

I am assuming all other connections are left unconnected?

I am also looking for the 145 disk collection of fzf files that used to be on the internet back in the day, as shown in this site:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030622174056/http://heim.ifi.uio.no/~asbjxrn/fz/freeware/

I was able to get about 30 or so from there, but most files are not archived. Did anyone download these that they could share? On the files section here it goes up to disk 24.

Thanks!

I know next to nothing about the FZ. Have you tried this site?

Greetings, I compiled that file collection and burned the original CD. It took several years to locate all the sample disks- Casio even loaned me their library of all the disks that they had (their collection was not even complete). All the files were transferred via the MIDI cable and it works incredibly well. The transfer is relatively quick- much faster than the disk. You will need to run the program on an older DOS or early based Windows machine. If memory serves, I was able to get it to work up through Windows 98SE. As far as building the box, just take your time and triple check your connections before making any connections. I highly encourage you to build the cable! Best wishes, Mike ---------- Original Message ----------

Hi, Charles.
    I don't know if you realize this, but I was not the person who said anything about making a cable. As I said, I know next to nothing about the FZ. I am familiar with the site I mentioned and thought I would try to be helpful to the person who was interested in making a cable in case he wasn't familiar with that site.
    So, I have no interest in whether or not you or anyone else has FZ disk files and I have no idea whether or not the cable works.

Steve

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
