I have had problems with midi quest myself. Some synths I have had working perfectly, others working but unstable, while some wont work at all. I did get my cz1000 fully working, so I think it should work fully with your cz5000. I'm going to go through every step, sorry if some of this is obvious to you.

Connect midi out from your computer to midi in on your cz.

Connect midi in from your computer to midi out on your cz.

First of all lets check your midi connections work.

Have you got the drivers installed for your midi interface? Will your DAW (for example ableton/logic/cubase/fl studio) play notes on your cz? If you play the keyboard on your cz, are the notes received by your DAW? If yes for both, you know your midi connections are correct. If no there is something wrong with either the midi cables, interface or cz. Try connecting a different midi instrument to the pc if you have one, then you should be able to discover which device is not working correctly.

Start midi quest. Click studio, install instruments from, sound quests website. Highlight Casio cz5000, have add to studio box ticked, click ok. It Will connect via FTP to website and install the instrument. Auto sense may scan your midi ports for the cz (this was enabled by default in my installation). Hopefully it will discover it. If auto sense is not enabled and you want to enable it, you can find it in in options, preferences, under the studio tab.

If midi quest has found the device it should scan through your patches and they will be stored in the patch bank within midi quest. Double click on a patch name and the patch editor screen will open. Here you can edit the patch on screen. Once you have edited the patch you must click the put icon at the top left of the window to hear the sound on the cz. The edited patch will be the patch in the edit buffer on the cz, you must store it to a patch number to keep it.

If midi quest has problems communicating with the cz, you can try slowing down the communication between the computer and cz. I had to do this for some other devices but not with my cz1000, so I do not know if it will help. Also, Although these boxes are available for both mac and windows, according to sound quest technical support they have no effect on mac-not very useful that I had to ask to find this out.

Go to options, preferences, midi tab. At the bottom are three boxes to slow the data- delay sysx every 12 bytes, slow sysx 4ms per sysx delay. After changing these you will need to restart the program. If it seems to help but doesn't completely fix the problem, try increasing the value slightly.

To be honest, although midi quest is still being developed I had more success with the discontinued sound diver for my PC. It is available for free if you look hard enough. I have given up trying to get an editor working for my mac.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
