FZ20M - HDD Formating Times?

FZ20M - HDD Formating Times?

2016-08-24 by forums@...

Hi all

Ive installed a SCSI2SD card in my FZ20 and I'm trying for format the SD card (set to emulate a 2GB card). It all looks good, flashing away with the screen saying:

EXECUTING* (one black dot at the end)

Its been about an hour but I'm not sure how long I should expect..

Any ideas how long it should take for format a 2gb HDD SCSI drive?

thanks

Paul

Hi all - I gave up on he 2gb SD card and tried a 500mb SD card. This formatted successfully in about 1 minute and I can now save/load from this SD card..

All I have to do now is work out how to get FZB and FZV files from my PC onto this SD card (Windows does not recognise the FZ formatted SD card).

ta,

Paul

Hey that's cool! I have an FZ20M and was thinking of doing the same thing.... How big in MB is the partition? Will the FZ see a 500MB one? I think the original Mac HDs were no more than 80MB at the time.

I'm not sure it is possible to copy the files from a PC to the card in any way the FZ can read. You could dump by midi (slow), or use a special built cable - I have not done this. Or use the normal FZ floppy to load sounds and then save them to the HD. Probably best way I can think of is to have an HxC drive for the floppy, load sounds into the FZ from that, and save them to the HD. I have an HxC installed in my FZ1 and I am able to move .fzf files from the PC onto the SD card and then put the card in the FZ1.

Hi - it seems the FZ20 will only see 512Mb SD cards. Last nights success was with a 512Mb card and tonight I have managed to get a 2Gb SD working BUT only by using he SCSI2SD_UTIL software and setting the config to "Device Size 512Mb". This forces all cards to be seen as a 512Mb card.

So, if it is not possible to get PC files onto the SD card, will I be able to save files from my PC onto a 3.5 Floppy and then read that in the FZ? Ive order a 3.5floppy USB drive for £9.50 from Amazon (due tomorrow) so will give it a try.

I was going to put the SD reader slot onto the surface of the FZ but, if there is no way to actually transfer to/from the SD card, I might just save cutting fascia holes in the FZ and leave the SD card internal to the FZ. This will make it just an internal HD.

Paul

Hi, interesting thread this. I used to have an FZ-10M and always wanted a FZ-20M to have been able to run a hard drive.

Anyway, my point is, If you have a HXC you could use that to transfer disk images onto the hard drive in the FZ of course; but then you "MAY" be able to use the PC app Winimage to take a raw image dump of the filled 512MB FZ formatted card and then re-write that image to another card as a backup. [you can even write to bigger cards but only use up to the 512MB]

It's a shareware app but you will be allowed 30 days to use the full program functions before needing to register. I've been able to image Amiga and Raspberry pi raw card images and then re-write them successfully so with any luck it should work fine on the Casio data. :)

Worth a shot and could save a lot of time & trouble if for any reason the SD card gets corrupted.

Chris.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
