Re: Evolver Sequencer - MIDI Clock = "nOt"

2003-10-18 by ski_ex5tech

Sayer, you said, "This is a concept I really don't understand. What
is the use for this in comparison to syncing the sequencer via midi
clock? Are you sending multiple midi notes between each sequencer
step?"

The best way to understand this is to simply try it, and trying it is
easy.

1) Pick a nice lead/bass patch, and set up a sequencer destination to
control something *other* than pitch (really - no kidding this
time). Use filter, filter offset, or something like that. Even
better, set the waveshapes of osc 3 & 4 to be controlled by two
sequencer tracks (look under shift row 2).

2) In sequence edit mode, assign some sequencer values. They can
just be random for now.

3) In the "Main" row at the top, knob 8 controls "MIDI Clock".
Change the value of MIDI Clock to the new "nOt" setting.

4) Hit the sequencer Start/Stop button, and you'll notice nothing
much happens; the sequencer doesn't even appear to be running.

5) Now play the keyboard. You'll see that each note you play
advances the sequencer by one step.

With some tasteful programming (or even not so tasteful!), this can
really be a blast to play. I have a patch I like called "Wave
Advance" that uses this feature. I'll have to post it for everyone
later. The only thing that's a bit inconvenient is that you can't
store the MIDI Clock setting on a program level. It's only a quick
knob twist away, though.
