I'm in the process (somewhat exhilarating) of replenishing my studio after having had to sell off almost everything during an extended period of unemployment awhile back... I got an evolver a couple of weeks ago, and have found it to be one of the funnest synths I've ever played, an experience that probably a few of you can identify with. yesterday I was in Robotspeak in S.F. , and they had a Perfourmer and the drum machine (forget name) by Vermona. These are nice toys, definitely - I was especially drawn to the Perfourmer, which seems like a particularly unique synth - lacking in programming capability where you usually find it, but having some unique flexibilities. But as I was testing these out, I started noticing that they had an evolver lurking close by, and I started realizing that I really wanted a second one more than I wanted either of these (might not have gotten to that point if you could save patch memory on the Vermona synths). This was last night - I'm just scratching the surface at this point - spent too much time last night trying to figure out how to use the Poly Chain mode while hooked up to Logic. I ran into the following issues - I'll mention them in case it might save someone some time in the future, and also in case anyone wants to make fun of me. One thing I didn't keep straight initially was that, once you have the synths hooked up correctly, there are 2 important settings that can influence your mental condition, Poly Chain mode, and the MIDI xmit. What happens (I think this is what was happening, it's all a blur now, since I was drinking Chimay to help me think more clearly) - you have MIDI Xmit (and receive on the 2nd evolver) set to either xmit parameters or All (which seem like a reasonable setting if you want your knob turns to register on both units), and you change the Poly Chain mode to All or notes, then a MIDI feedback loop can form between the Evolvers and Logic (or other sequencer), since the poly chain mode setting gets sent to the second evolver. This was driving me crazy for awhile. Perhaps there's something that I'm missing (hope so), but I'd like to see this capability made a little more user friendly somehow. Gene
