I can't comment on what kind of work would go into implementing CC control messages since I know nothing of programming. But your solution to just turn off Sysex filtering is not a solution. I lose the ability to make quick, easy edits b/c I'm dealing with sysex and not CC messages in the sequencer. I lose the ability to easily draw in my own control parameters into a midi automation track.
